Requirements for Source Data for Creating PivotTable
To obtain the desired information, the source data for a PivotTable must satisfy certain requirements. The basic requirements for a PivotTable's source data are as follows:
- The first row of data must contain column headings. Column headings are used as field names by PivotTable Wizard; drag those field names into layout area to create your PivotTable report items.
- Each column must be composed with the data of same category. Text and numbers must be placed in separate columns.
- Data range must not contain a blank column. You cannot create a PivotTable if there are blank columns with no column heading.
- Source data must not contain subtotals or total. PivotTable makes subtotals and total automatically when it is created; if your source data contains subtotal or total fields, delete them before creating the PivotTable report.
