Define Name is a function that defines a name for specific cells or areas. If you define a name, you can easily move to a defined position or use a formula.
Steps
To define a name
- Click Formula-Name-Define Name.
- Type a name in Name in the Define Name dialog box, specify area in Reference Area, and click OK.
- If you use a name defined in a cell of a worksheet when writing a formula, the constant defined as the name will apply to the formula.

Name
Define the selected area a name. If you type a name and click OK, the new name will be added.
You can use duplicate names in different rage, but you cannot use duplicate names in the same range.
Range
Select a range for the defined name. If you select a certain sheet or workbook, you can use names defined in the sheet or workbook.
Reference Area
Check the cell area to which the name refers, and specify your own if necessary.
Notes
Name Box
If you select a cell or area for which you defined a name, the name will be displayed in the name box. If you type the name of a cell or area in the name box, the cell or area will be selected.
